The band decided to invite Mark Hamill to revisit the classic film “One Car, One Boy, One Girl” (1978)
Green Day have released the official music video for “Corvette Summer,” starring actor Mark Hamill, known for playing Luke Skywalker in the sci-fi saga “Star Wars.” The song is available on the band’s new album, “Saviors,” released in January this year.
Although the artist is best remembered for the franchise, the Californian trio invited Hamill to revisit another film from his career, the classic comedy “A Car, A Boy, A Girl” (Corvette Summer, 1978), reliving an adventure aboard a corvette. The video features several elements of the film, as well as a special appearance by comedian Hannibal Buress.
“The song is named after one of our favorite cult movies, so it made sense to pay homage to it with the music video. We went over budget, so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, duct tape, and dolls we found in Tré’s basement. [Cool; baterista]. Directed by dynamic duo Ryan Baxley and Brendan Walter. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!” wrote Green Day.
Music Video Details
The low-budget clip is set at Coma City Junior High School, where a class shares what they did over the summer with their teacher (Buress). The main students are played by Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, and Mike Dirnt. Together, they made a VHS tape and brought it to their classmates to watch.
Later, Armstrong and Cool appear stealing a red Corvette from Dirnt, who tells the police what happened, but they reply, “Sorry, son. That car’s already halfway to Canada.”
The bassist is frustrated with the situation and decides to join forces with Mark Hamill to recover the vehicle. They “steal” the corvette back, prompting a chase by Armstrong and Cool.
