It’s been a while since fans have been able to catch up with Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder, but the OG Avenger is finally back. Thor: love and thunder. And as is often the case with Marvel movies, there is a some fun cameos to watch . One of them is a very cool Easter egg reminiscent of 2016. Captain America civil war. Does an average guy named Darryl Jacobson mean anything to you?
Well, Darryl Jacobson was Thor’s roommate, who appeared in the short film directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth’s hero in a mockumentary. They were released as bonus features in Marvel’s home press releases, starting with the first in Captain America civil war, from which the god of thunder was notably excluded. Darryl, played by Daley Pearson, appears in his own right love and thunder. As Waititi shared with Gossipify during our exclusive Thor interviews :
Darryl is in the movie, he’s the New Asgard tour guide. I love what we shot before Ragnarok – those little shorts set the tone for the character. It was a little experiment, we were like, “Oh, let’s see what Thor looks like when he’s a little more human.”
Thor’s first short film, titled thor teamthey shot him a month earlier ragnarok, marking the first time Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth have worked together. Afterward, the duo brought new energy to the Marvel hero, something many fans appreciated. While making the shorts, Hemsworth added:
Yes [the shorts were] a little more improvised and crazy and we didn’t take any risks and then we entered the set [of Ragnarok] and I thought: ‘Let’s keep it up’.

The short film comedy is quite reminiscent of Taika Waititi’s work in What we do in the shadows, and since then, Taika Waititi has brought a lot of that into the Marvel movies she’s made. (The nude scene in the latter film is a prime example of just how wild the director can get.)
After his absence, Darryl was brought back to love and thunder as a tour guide in New Asgard, where he provides visitors with information on some of the best places in the area. When asked by Gossipify how he got there, the New Zealand director replied:
He owed Darryl money and said, “I’ll get you a job in New Asgard, you’ll love Norway.”
In addition to Darryl’s return to Thor’s circle, Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, Sam Neill’s characters return as series actors in New Asgard. They are also joined by Melissa McCarthy, who plays the fake Hela. The film also includes a number of other notable newcomers to the franchise. For example, there is Presentation of Zeus by Russell Crowe Yup, in one of the credits scenes fans meet his son: Hercules!
It was really fun to see all of these characters in the new movie, but Darryl was definitely a big surprise. She makes a great Easter egg, and maybe if Taika Waititi keeps making more Thor movies, she will!
