Drake Reveals How One Woman Inspired His Hit ‘Hotline Bling’

The success Bling Hotline Drake’s 2015 album was an inevitable phenomenon. This Tuesday (06), Drake gave fans a behind-the-scenes look, releasing 100GB of never-before-seen content, including clips of him in the studio explaining how the diamond-certified hit came to be.

Drake revealed that the inspiration behind Bling Hotline It came from a woman he was seeing. He saved her name in his phone as Bling Hotline why did he keep getting calls and messages while they were together. “We were sleeping together… and his phone would ring. So I saved his name in my phone as ‘Hotline Bling.’ That was his name in my phone the whole time,” Drake explained.

He said he warned the woman on the track: “I was talking to her today. I was like, ‘Hey, your name, your nickname is a good title for something.’ And then today I told her I thought, you know, I made a song called ‘Hotline Bling,’ that’s crazy.”

Drake initially found it inviting Future to join him Bling Hotlinebut I decided to do it myself. “It’s melody, but it’s an atmosphere,” he has declared. “When I was writing it, I wrote it like a Shy Glizzy song. That’s why I was asking if we should put Future on this shit.” However, Drake and Future collaborated a few months later on the joint project What a time to be alive.

Made by Nineteen85, Bling Hotline was released in July 2015. The vibrant music video and signature dance of Drake spawned a series of viral memes and parodies on social media. Although the anthem never reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, it did peak at No. 2 on the chart.
