Preta Gil launches book in SP and celebrates 50 years: “I don’t want to hide my aging”

The artist received fans and friends during an autograph evening in the capital of Sao Paulo

Preta Gil is publishing his autobiography Preta Gil: The First 50to celebrate her half-century of life. The daughter of Gilberto Gil with Draothe first wife of the singer and composer from Bahia, received fans and friends at the book signing at the Livraria da Vila on Alameda Lorena, in the Jardins neighborhood.

In the book, all the main memories of the artist, daughter of a family rich in them. “The most pulsating things in me, my early childhood, the atmosphere in which I grew up in Salvador, in the Stiep neighborhood, my brothers, my mother’s godchildren, music, art, the compliments that my godmother gave me, the playfulness that was always very encouraged in me”, she recalls.

Preta also says he included in the book the great transformation his life underwent as a teenager, when, in the 1980s, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. “So many new things, I left directly for the South Zone of Rio, in the chaos of Ipanema, another reality. All this was, of course, a shock, but a positive shock,” he says.

In her fifties, Preta can also celebrate the fact that she has become a point of reference in overcoming – the singer had to face cancer, from which she recovered, after going through a difficult separation – and also an example of self-esteem.

When she launched herself as a singer, the artist made headlines by posing naked in the album booklet, which also attracted the attention of critics. After 21 years, she continues to make a difference by adopting the gray hairs on her head. “I love them. I don’t cover them,” he states categorically. “Society imposes many rules and standards to limit and create in us some limiting fears that collaborate with this society that wants to control us,” he says. “I am not that person, I want to be free to be who I am, to live and grow old. I can’t go against nature,” he explains.

She says she stopped dyeing her hair during the pandemic and that, afterward, she decided to only highlight her locks. “I do it because I like it, because I’m vain, because it seems beautiful to me and white people are beautiful too. And I don’t want to hide my aging, my maturity, on the contrary, I want to live it like this. It doesn’t frustrate me, because it’s very sad to see so many women with acceptance problems because I don’t know how to grow old, especially in today’s world with the Internet, with filters, it’s crazy to be myself in any environment, whether it’s digital or analog,” she jokes.

As a demonstration of vitality and disposition, the artist expresses the desire to have in the next 50 the same energy that he experienced in the first 50 years of life. “This is my desire, to continue with this passion for life, this spark in my eyes, this desire to live, to play, to be happy, to overcome other problems”, he comments. “I am a person who arrives here zero traumatized by what he has experienced, everything has served as a lesson to be able to value these next fifty years even more. I am full of fuel, ideas, arguments and we are going for another fifty that are only at the beginning”, he celebrates.
