The Stranger Things star reflects on footage of Vecna’s first big kills before confronting Eleven

Spoilers ahead throughout season 4 of Strange things on Netflix.

The fourth season of Strange things is officially available to Netflix subscribers for over a week, but there’s still a lot to talk about as the wait for Season 5 begins. This time around, the heroes haven’t definitively defeated the villain in the finale, and Vecna landed some major hits before the titles of tail. roll. Jamie Campbell Bower debuted as Vecna in a full prosthetic suit, but also played Henry / One via flashbacks. Speaking with Gossipify after the finale came out, the actor reflected on the order of the shoot, including the murders of Chrissy and Fred before the Hawkins Lab massacre.

Jamie Campbell Bower’s casting was announced ahead of the premiere, but fans walked in while she waits for me to play the hospital worker Peter they had some really big surprises when the show revealed that not only the man in the Eleven flashbacks was actually One, but also Henry and the future Vecna. When I told the actor that he had switched from “Friendly Orderly” at the beginning of season 4 to Vecna, he wondered if he could have shot sequentially or not for season 4:

After reflection, we mainly shot sequentially. I actually started shooting Vecna earlier, so we shot relatively in order from a plot point of view. So I had the Chrissy and Fred murders first, and then I went back and shot most of the scenes with Eleven as Henry in one shot, or not one shot, but you know, chronologically, then I went back in Vecna. . There were only a few times where I would play Henry one day in one mode and then immediately switch to Vecna the next. They were always interesting times because they required different preparation on my part. But above all in order.

TV shows can rarely film in order, so a whole season of “mostly” shooting your character in order is quite a feat to do. Strange thingsand it seems like what Jamie Campbell Bower appreciated in his preparation to play Vecna.

After all, even though Henry / One’s first confrontation with Eleven at Hawkins Lab happened chronologically years before Season 4, those flashbacks came mid-season. He has played Vecna before Yes after playing Henry; considering his comments on how he prepared to play Vecna with and without prosthetics it seems that shooting largely sequentially was to Bower’s advantage.

And that wasn’t the norm for the entire season 4 filming process. Prior to the season premiere, Joseph Quinn (who played Eddie) noted that the cast “would have days where we were shooting scenes from episode 1 and the movie. ‘episode 9 in one “. day. “Joe Keyy (of which Steve fortunately survived ) added that the cast had filmed previous seasons in batches of episodes instead of launching the entire season, and that they didn’t think they “didn’t even see David Harbor” with all the spacing between season 4 storylines.

Quinn and Keery’s characters were part of the same Hawkins-based script, so their experiences were very different from Jamie Campbell Bower’s in terms of the order of shooting. Indeed, Joseph Quinn revealed that shooting Eddie’s death scene was “strange” for him and Gaten Matarazzo because it was shot in two parts on different days. Eddie’s death presumably means Quinn won’t be back in Season 5, but Bower’s Vecna was still alive despite the second confrontation with Eleven in the finale.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a while before we get answers to some the big questions left out of season 4 . There are no indications as to when the show will return for season 4, and fans can hope the hiatus isn’t as long as the one that followed season 3. For now, you can watch all four seasons of Strange things (opens in a new tab) streaming on Netflix and find out the quick things we know so far about season 5 .
