King will headline the group’s first call, which will take place via Zoom on the evening of Tuesday, August 27. The group’s political director, April Glick Pulito, announced King’s participation as a special surprise in an email to attendees.

While Taylor Swift, whose fan base is the group’s fulcrum, isn’t formally affiliated with the campaign, her presence is always welcome, according to organizers. “Swifties for Kamala” describes itself as a coalition ready to mobilize Swift’s fans for political causes. In addition to Carole King, the event will feature several prominent political figures, including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Ed Markey. Other politicians will also be in attendance, including Rep. Chris Deluzio and Rep. Becca Balint. The kickoff call will be an opportunity for these leaders to discuss their visions and strategies for Kamala Harris’ campaign. Team Members Swifties for Kamalasuch as Irene Kim, Emerald Medrano, Annie Wu Henry and others, will speak during the event.

Despite Taylor Swift’s official absence, her influence on fans and her political stance, evident in previous elections, become an important rallying factor for the group. Swift, who supported Joe Biden in 2020 and has harshly criticized Donald Trump, has not yet declared her support for the 2024 presidential election, but her progressive stance is clear. The virtual meeting is intended to be a space to engage young voters, inspired by both political figures and music icons like Carole King.
