Since the countdown began, many fans have believed that Linkin Park may announce a new vocalist to replace Chester Benningtonwho passed away in 2017. This rumor began circulating earlier this year, when sources close to the band suggested that they were looking for a female singer to front the group for a possible return in 2025.
Furthermore, according to the NMEspeculation increased after the Sum 41 use your social networks to publicize a “newsletter” Deryck Whibley” for the morning of Wednesday, August 28. Since both bands have a similar fan base and are part of the 2000s rock scene, this coincidence generated even more rumors.
Later, SUM 41’s Deryck put an end to the rumors. He confirmed on his social media that he is not the new member of Linkin Park and that his announcement tomorrow (which will now move to the weekend) is about his new tour and book, see:
I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It has been brought to my attention that many people think I might be joining a band that is reuniting. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band, to be honest.
I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move forward to later in the week, before our US tour.
I look forward to seeing what these amazing bands do in the future.”
Mike Shinodaone of the members of the Linkin Parkasked fans for patience and stated that any news would be officially announced on the band’s website. Meanwhile, the rumor about a new vocalist gained strength when Jay Gordonfrom the band Orgy, mentioned that he had heard about a possible new female member. However, Gordon later clarified that he had no concrete information and that his words were misinterpreted.
