The CIA’s deputy director revealed that the Austrian police carried out the arrests with the support of other agencies
David S. Cohen, deputy director of the CIA (the United States spy agency), revealed on Wednesday (28/8) the intentions of the terrorist group that planned a massacre during Taylor Swift’s three performances in Vienna, Austria. According to him, Austrian police officers carried out the arrests with the support of other international agencies.
“They had planned to kill a large number of people, tens of thousands of people who were on the tour, and I’m sure that [matariam] many Americans,” revealed director David S. Cohen, in an interview at the Intelligence Summit, in Maryland (USA).
“The Austrians were able to make these arrests thanks to the agency [a CIA] and our partners in the intelligence community provided information about what this Islamic State-linked group was planning to do.”
Show details
Taylor Swift’s performances were sold out and 65,000 spectators were expected to attend each event. However, local authorities discovered that terrorists were planning an attack. Three suspects were arrested, an 18-year-old Iraqi and two Austrians aged 19 and 17 respectively.
“The cancellation of our shows in Vienna was devastating. The reason for the cancellation filled me with a new feeling of fear and an immense sense of guilt because so many people had planned these shows. But I was also very grateful to the authorities, because, thanks to them, we cry for the shows, not for the lives,” Taylor lamented after the incident.
