Singer and songwriter Jana Andrade will release her first album this Friday (30), Transparent. Life, work, reality and fiction mix in the artist’s work, which is like a window through which to see one’s soul – or like a movie or television screen. The album is now available on digital platforms.
It’s not that her work is autobiographical: it’s just that the songs tell stories that could happen to anyone, including her. Her characters, inspired by the observation of everyday life and living with friends and family, portray the adventure of existence.
Seen together, they suggest, not intentionally, a sort of script that reflects the trajectory of Jana Andrade – wonder, disappointment and redemption. As the beginning, middle and end of a narrative of overcoming in a motivational film. One “The Heroine’s Journey”if you prefer: a journey of learning and transformation.
Jana Andrade: The songs that make up ‘Transparente’
The songs on the album emerged as compositional exercises, so well executed that they acquired life, color and sound. This is evident from the dizzying turn that Jana Andrade works across different genres and narratives, which, although different, form a coherent mosaic, like a kaleidoscope.
“They can be connected in different ways and they all, in fact, end up somewhere inside me or in my worldview.”theorizes Jana Andrade. “The story of the album is: a person suffered something, felt very bad because of it, got lost along the way, started to find himself, discovered a new person and found a new love,” she summarizes.
“I am a human being like everyone else, and for me it was no different,” compare Jana Andrade. “These facts tell a lot about my history with my career. I went through situations that didn’t suit me, that weren’t for me, and I tried to adapt. I felt bad, I rediscovered myself afterwards, and today I find it and I fight for this new love that is my experience and history with music.”
So we have a somewhat abstract narrative arc, described by the order in which the songs are released. The first single, You don’tis associated with the “cause of pain”, the premise of the story. At the rate of bossa novaHe talks about a separation.
The next three songs, Broken screen, Yesterday Juliana AND Oh troublewere released as an EP titled Cloudyand describe the deepest moment after this separation, in the form of blues, soul and rock. While the first is pure suffering, the latter shows a character who learns to sublimate pain with derision. Vem, the most recent single, already aims at a certain lightness, with the story of a platonic love story elaborated in R&B.
The last two songs, which close the album and arrive together with the release of the full album, are My nim, a delicious forrozim what did she do to win over her husband, and Transparenta cult-style song whose object of adoration is the person she finds herself after this whole journey: our heroine, protagonist and author, finally in the arms of herself and the music that, near or far, was always in her heart.
