Ultraje bassist Mingau in Rigor completes year in hospital

The musician remains hospitalized after being shot in the head in 2022, and his bandmates express support on his birthday

Inaldo Oliveira Amaral, Mingau of the band Ultraje a Rigor, celebrates his 57th birthday this Tuesday (3/9) and also one year in the hospital since he was shot in the head in September 2022, in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. Hospitalized at the São Luiz Itaim hospital, in São Paulo, the bassist faces a long recovery process.

Tribute to the band

On his birthday, the other members of Ultraje a Rigor posted a tribute to Mingau on their social media, wishing him a full recovery. “Today our beloved Mingus turns one more year old and, sadly, 1 year since the tragic event that took him from the stage,” they wrote. They also expressed their hope to see him back in full form: “We continue to monitor his recovery and hope it is as quick as possible. We hope it won’t be long before we can laugh, play and have fun together again.”

Recovery and treatment

After being admitted to hospital in September last year, Mingau was discharged in January, but was readmitted in February due to a gastrointestinal imbalance.

Last July, the musician underwent cranioplasty surgery, during which a prosthesis was implanted to reconstruct part of his skull.
