Partnership with Anitta inspired The Weeknd’s exclusive show in Sao Paulo

The collaboration with the Brazilian singer became the centerpiece of the presentation and influenced the new work of the Canadian singer

The Weeknd and Anitta’s collaboration gained prominence at Saturday’s (7/9) exclusive show in São Paulo, where the Canadian singer presented a new song resulting from this partnership. According to Billboard Brasil magazine, this song was, in fact, the deciding factor for the Canadian singer to choose São Paulo as the stage for his off-tour performance with new songs. There is also evidence that the duo’s recording is called “São Paulo” – The Weeknd did not reveal the titles of any of the new songs performed live.

According to the publication, the partnership began in October 2022, when The Weeknd performed in the city with the show “After Hours Til Dawn”. At that time, producer Mike Dean, responsible for the collaboration with the singer, requested a recording of Anitta. The Brazilian sent it without thinking too much, but the result had such a big impact on The Weeknd that it inspired the creation of a new song.

Collaboration becomes central to the new show

Based on the material Anitta sent during the previous show, The Weeknd composed a new song, which became the centerpiece of his performance in São Paulo. “Anitta is a great friend. What she sent us was incredible, and from there we created the song,” the singer said in an interview with the magazine. She said that the collaboration was essential for the realization of the new show and the upcoming album, which is titled “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” “We knew it was too special to be used only for the show. The song has great potential and is the heart of the album,” she explained.

Anita’s reaction

Anitta was surprised by the response to her collaboration and celebrated the result. “I wrote some verses as a joke and never imagined that they would become something serious. When I received the finished track, I was honored,” the singer commented, also highlighting the presence of Brazilian funk elements in the track, which features samples of Tati Quebra Barraco. “The track has a touch of Brazilian funk, as promised, spread all over the world,” he explained. “I’ve always been a fan of his work and participating in this project was a dream come true,” the Brazilian concluded.
