This Wednesday night (9/11) the Video Music Awards (VMA), the main American event of MTV, are scheduled, with Anitta performing the new song “Paradise”, in which she will be accompanied by American rappers Fat Joe and DJ Khaled. The event will take place at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York (USA), and can be followed live, starting at 9:00 p.m., on MTV Brasil and on the streaming service Pluto TV.
The VMAs have a history of moving pop culture, usually thanks to the improvisations that take place on their stage. Three moments from the show that made headlines were Kanye West interrupting an awards ceremony for Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus twerking to Robin Thicke, and Britney Spears and Madonna kissing.
Confirmed Shows
Hosted by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, the show will pay tribute to Katy Perry and the 40th anniversary of rap label Def Jam, which launched the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy. There will be a variety of musical performances, with confirmed names including Eminem, JXDN, Shawn Mendes, LL Cool J, Karol G, Lisa, Lenny Kravitz, Halsey, Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Rauw Alejandro, GloRilla, Chappell Roan, and Camila Cabello. in addition to Anitta and host Megan Thee Stallion.
Artists with the most nominations
The event will also feature several nominees for the famous Moon Man trophy, known in Brazil as the Silver Astronaut, which, for a change, sees Taylor Swift as the artist with the most nominations. There are 10 mentions in different categories, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Director. Taylor is followed far behind by Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Eminem, who have received six nominations each, and singers SZA and Megan Thee Stallion, who appear in five different categories.
Anitta is competing for three awards. She has entered the fight for the Best Latin Music trophy twice and could win her third consecutive award in the category, competing with “Mil Veces”, from the album “Funk Generation”, and with “Bellakeo”, released in collaboration with Mexican singer Peso Feather. Despite the double, she faces strong opponents such as Shakira, Cardi B, Karol G, Bad Bunny, as well as Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro. Her third nomination at the event is for Best Editing for the video of “Mil Veces”.
