The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) ceremony, held on September 11, was dominated by women and marked a night of strong performances and politicized speeches. Taylor Swift was the top winner, taking home seven awards, including “Artist of the Year” and “Video of the Year” for her hit “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. During her speech, Taylor highlighted the support of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and encouraged her fans to register to vote in the U.S. presidential election, as well as honoring the victims of September 11, 2001.

Chappell Roan also shone on the night, winning the “Best New Artist” award, cementing his position as one of the revelations of the year. There was also room for our own Anitta, who won the award for Best Latin Pop.

Host Megan Thee Stallion hosted the event and also won two awards, while artists such as SZA and Post Malone also emerged victorious, with the latter winning five trophies.

The evening featured strong performances from Karol G, Katy Perry (who also won the VMA Iconic Performance Award for “Roan” and the Breakthrough Artist Award) and Lenny Kravitz, as well as emotional moments like a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the record label Def Jam, celebrated by LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes.
