Maria Becerra Releases New Single “Agora”

After a long wait from his fans, last Friday (13), Mary Becerra presented the single Now. The song was announced in December 2022, during a live in which Maria, alongside her producer X-Redsang the chorus. Since then, more than 200,000 videos have been made with the chorus of this song.

With lyrics that mix Spanish, Portuguese and a touch of English, Now It’s a ballad with bossa nova influences and talks about love, pain and the desire to reconnect.

“This song was born from a playful moment with Maria. We were singing in Portuñol just for fun. I took all the instruments—bass, guitar, drums, keyboards and synthesizer—and created a quick base for Mari to record something over. She was excited about her Portuguese chorus and sent it without imagining that it would become something so big”says Xross, his producer.

The music video, directed by Julian Levy and Lucas Fossati and produced by Asalto, captures the dreamlike atmosphere of the song by transporting it to a dark beach of mermaids, where Maria reflects on the past she wants to return to. The video, starring Francisco Romero (The Snow Society), highlights the single and features the artist in black and white for the first time.

“The challenge as a director is always to achieve a metaphorical connection between the visual narrative and the song. Beyond the childlike representations of mermaids, we were fascinated by the idea of giving these mythological creatures an emotional depth. Finding the connection between the lyrics and the images. How many times and in how many relationships do we end up failing to challenge our nature. How much guilt does a mermaid carry for each of her victims?” said Julian Levy.

“Our approach was to capture what the audiovisual world awakened in us when we heard this song: that painful moment of loss and separation, similar to the feeling that Maria feels at the end of the video. We wanted to create a pause with this release, which was long-awaited, and presents Mary in a surprising, beautiful and iconic way,” commented Lucas Fossati.

“This song is very special to me. ‘Now’ was a lot of work. We made five versions, refining and improving the sound and lyrics over the course of a year, until we got the best version,” – added Maria.

It is worth remembering Mary Becerra has over 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify, over 5 million subscribers to his official YouTube channel, and over 12 billion views across all his music videos.
