Boi Band is formed by Sonya, Kayden, Kristin, Mik and Coda
Self-titled as the world’s first 100% queer pop band, Boi Band was formed in Los Angeles and comprised of five singers, songwriters and producers who represent diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
The members are Sonya (prone she/her, identify as a lesbian), Kayden (elu/delu, bi-gender), Kristin (she/she, lesbian), Mike (elu/delu, non-binary) and coda (she identifies as queer).
It is worth remembering how Boi Band was initially formed as a weekend project to sing covers of traditional boy bands, but the members realized how much bigger the idea was than expected. “This band is bigger than all of us, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to share our mission to inspire love, visibility and self-acceptance,” the band said in a statement.
Main inspirations for Boi Band
Sonya is the creator and leader of the band, who considers herself a great lover of pop music who grew up in the “boy band era.” The artist wanted to recreate this “magic” of childhood and adolescence, but with a focus on queer representation and diversity – something never done in this musical genre.
Together, we truly embody the love and fun we hope to inspire through our music, and every day, we are grateful to have found our chosen family.
