Rapper piles up string of abuse lawsuits in U.S. federal courts
Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is accused of drug trafficking and sexual assault, was arrested Monday night (September 16) in the lobby of the Park Hyatt hotel in Manhattan, New York, a U.S. federal court has revealed.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York said Diddy’s arrest was based on an indictment filed by his office. “We hope to disclose the indictment this morning (9/17) and will say more at that time,” Damian Williams summarized.
The rapper’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told Deadline that his client is “a flawed person, but he is not a criminal.” The defense also said that Diddy cooperated with the criminal investigation and that he “voluntarily moved to New York” in anticipation of the assault charges.
“We are disappointed by the decision [da Justiça] to pursue what we believe to be an unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Agnifilo added. “[O rapper] He is a music icon, an independent entrepreneur, a loving family man and a proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community.”
More details
Diddy was first accused of sexual assault in November 2023, when singer Cassie Ventura filed a complaint against her ex-boyfriend. Since then, the rapper has been accused of assault and inappropriate conduct against multiple men and women. He has also become the target of a federal criminal investigation in New York.
Although Diddy has denied all the allegations, he has admitted to having an abusive relationship with the artist. However, the confession only came after security camera footage emerged of him attacking his ex-partner in a Los Angeles hotel.
Last month, the rapper also attempted to dismiss a sexual assault and human trafficking lawsuit filed by his former music producer, Lil Rod, a move the latter’s defense called a “failed attempt to line his pockets before he gets indicted.”
Diddy’s situation further worsened last week when singer Dawn Richard filed a lawsuit against the rapper, claiming he was yet another victim of the hip-hop mogul’s abuse of power and sexual assault.
