On the album that follows Zima (2022), genres such as house, afrobeat – and even a mantra – in a work classified by the artist as more mature
Aka Rasta dives deeply into themes such as self-knowledge, astrology and dualism in his newest work, Duality (2024), with distribution of Symphonic. The record succeeds Zimareleased two years ago – he has also released a mixtape, called Astronautin 2016.
THE Rolling Stone Brazil The artist explains how he came up with the concept for his work. “God talks to me through intuition. Every day I am bombarded with clarity, the result of life’s experiences,” says Rasta. “The universe is communicating all the time. You just have to be attentive to notice.”
If Zima is built around R&B, Dualidade shows a Rasta more willing to explore musical genres. “I brought R&B, in dualidade I brought many other genres, like house, afrobeat, even a mantra.”
I believe I have matured a lot, focusing on bringing quality and concept together, in each part of the work.
Rasta believes that “the whole exists in everything”. “Principle of polarity, two opposite things being the extreme of the same thing. So I’m in this process of searching for the right measure of balance, for everything, and I brought this to the project, showing several facets of myself, appearing to be several people, in the same person, in this case, me.”
The album features the participation of Ryu, The Runner, Rincon Wisdom, GA, NANA, Lime, Levi Menezes and Giana Mello. “I selected people whose work I admire and respect, whose work I think is talented, with that criteria in mind, it was easy to choose,” he explains. The production of the tracks was done by Tuti, Genesio, Blamecrxz, luangelus, Thiago Sub, Rigasbeats, Seithen#4100, Vertigo, Kouth, MAV and of the own Rasta.
