Gal Costa’s son and widow reach agreement resolves legal dispute over inheritance

The long and complex legal dispute over Gal Costa’s inheritance has ended with the signing of an agreement between Wilma Petrillo, the iconic singer’s widow, and Gabriel Costa, his son. The agreement, approved by the Court of São Paulo, puts an end to a process that had been dragging on since last year and offers a definitive solution to the impasse.

The agreement provides that Wilma and Gabriel will equally divide the estate left by Gal Costa. Each receives 50% of the goods and the debts listed in the artist’s inventory. This distribution will be effective until the date of ratification of the agreement. After this judicial confirmation, the agreement will come into force, formalizing the division of assets decided by the parties.

Another crucial point of the agreement is the distribution of royalties on the songs Gal Coast. The royalties will be split equally between Wilma and Gabriel until the singer’s house is sold or until one year after the agreement is ratified, whichever comes first.

The property, which was Gal Costa’s home during her final years, is at least valued R$8 million. If the home is not sold within six months, its value will be reviewed based on three independent appraisals, allowing for possible adjustments to the final price.

The resolution of this legal imbroglio is a breakup for both parties, allowing Wilma and Gabriel to move on with their lives without the strains of a prolonged legal battle. The division of assets and royalties is intended to ensure a fair and balanced solution, reflecting the artist’s will and the need to resolve the conflict peacefully.

Gal Costa: Legal Actions Closed

The agreement also includes Gabriel’s resistance to all legal actions brought against Wilma. These actions have mainly concerned the attempt to annul a document recognizing a stable union between Gal Costa and Wilma Petrillo.

Gabriel had previously claimed that he was forced to review the document and that he had been subjected to severe psychological pressure following his mother’s death. The exhumation of Gal Costa’s body was also requested to cast doubt on the information on the death certificate. However, with the new agreement, Gabriel withdrew these requests, ending the legal dispute with Wilma.

The decision to drop the lawsuit is an important step toward resolving the conflict, allowing Gabriel and Wilma to amicably end the dispute. The agreement not only facilitates the division of assets and royalties, but also ends the legal battle involving sensitive and complex personal issues.

The phase of the agreement between Wilma Petrillo and Gabriel Costa represents the end of a dispute that has had great public resonance. The resolution of the agreed terms marks a pause for all parties involved and marks the beginning of a new chapter, in which the memory and legacy of Gal Costa can be respected and adequately preserved.
