THE The Cure announced the release of “Alone”, the first song from their highly anticipated new album Songs Of A Lost World.
The British goth icons will release the song on September 26 as they prepare to release their first album in 16 years.
The group confirmed that the song will premiere on the show Mary Anne Hobbs in the BBC Radio 6Music in September 26thbetween 10:30am and 1pm, before more details about the album are revealed later that day.
A brief snippet of the song shared on social media shows the group’s typically dark tone, with Robert Smith singing: “This is the end of every song we sing.”

The band’s last album was 4:13 Dream from 2008, but they have been teasing the release of the next album with increasing intensity in recent weeks.
An inspired guerrilla marketing stunt saw a poster promoting the upcoming album placed outside a random pub in CrawleySmith’s hometown.
After completely wiping the band’s official website earlier this month, the band also sent out a postcard to some UK fans, embossed with the words “Songs of a Lost World” and a set of Roman numerals that, converted to date/month format, translate to November 1, 2024.
Smith has been working on the new album for at least half a decade, updating the status of the material for the Rolling Stone in 2019.
“The other thing is we’ve only done my demos, and the band has a few songs they’ve given me to listen to, to turn into songs that I haven’t been able to dedicate myself to. So I feel like we should explore those for a few days, too, in the studio now that we’re playing together again, just to see if anything comes up,” Smith said.
“I want it to work in a way that those really good Cure albums — my favorite Cure albums — work as plays. I want people to listen to it from beginning to end and be taken somewhere during that time.”
