After being criticized by fans, the owners of the hit “Shout” revealed that the cover was “thought in collaboration” with Vitalie Burcovschialso known as Surrealistically:
The album art Songs For A Nervous Planet is a mixed digital collage, with AI being just one of the many tools used in the creative process. We wanted a vibrant cover that evoked a sense of science fiction, futuristic themes and an escape from the familiar. The sunflowers are a playful nod to classic imagery from Tears For Fearswhile the juxtaposition of the astronaut is a link to our next song, ‘Astronaut’, and a sense of alienation and not belonging. We are fans of the work of Surrealistically for a long time and we knew he would be the perfect artist to bring our vision to life.

Criticism
Even after the Tears For Fears speak out about the use of AI in the album cover art, netizens continued to criticize the band’s decision.
“The irony of calling a record Songs For A Nervous Planet and use AI, which is destroying it [o planeta]on the cover,” a fan wrote in the comments of the Instagram post. “AI artists are not real artists,” argued another.
“This is not art. This is not an artist. Using AI images is theft, fraud, and completely wrong. I am speechless, even to understand why a band as big as Tears For Fears would use AI to generate an album cover, or why no one saw this as a mistake at any point. Listen to your fans and fix this please,” protested a third.
