Marvel’s Anti-Heroes Face Off in First ‘Thunderbolts’ Trailer*

The preview puts Florence Pugh at the center of the action, with fights and alliances that play out without giving too much away about the plot.

Marvel has released the official poster and first trailer for “Thunderbolts*,” a film that brings together the studio’s antiheroes. The preview highlights Florence Pugh as the lead character in the action, as Yelena Belova, the new Black Widow, and shows her initial struggle and alliance with the other members of the group, in a meeting seemingly orchestrated by Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).

Allegra has previously been seen recruiting Yelena and American Agent (Wyatt Russell) in the “Black Widow” film and “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series, respectively, and the two are the first to engage in a physical altercation in the preview. The trailer, however, features scenes out of order and without context, keeping the film’s plot a mystery.

The additional cast includes Sebastian Stan (“Falcon and the Winter Soldier”) as the Winter Soldier, David Harbour (“Black Widow”) as the Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen (“Ant-Man and the Wasp”) as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko (“Black Widow”) as Coach, and a new character played by Lewis Pullman (“Top Gun: Maverick”), who appears on the scene as Bob, but who fans already call the Sentry, the super-powered codename for Robert Reynolds in the comic book series.

With an initial script by Eric Pearson (“Black Widow”), the film was recently rewritten by Joanna Calo, showrunner of the series “The Bear,” and also credits Lee Sung Jin, creator of the series “Treta,” for its story. It is directed by Jake Schreier (“Paper Towns”) and is scheduled to premiere May 1 in Brazil, a day before its U.S. release.
