Ecad (Central Office for Collection and Distribution) pointed out that the Brazilian music market reached, this year, R$ 1 billion in copyrights, distributed to around 326 thousand composers and other holders.

The organization expects that the amount collected in copyright will be R$1.5 billion by the end of 2024. Ecad has already reached one billion in 2017, 2022 and 2023. Last year, the total amount collected reached R$1.3 billion.

As reported by the column Capitalfrom the newspaper The Globeradio, open TV and video streaming make up 47% of the amounts distributed.

How it works

Ecad collects and distributes royalties from works that reach the public. According to the institution, “the definition of the amount to be paid takes into account factors such as the location where the music is played, its importance to the business, the sector of activity, type of musical use and socioeconomic region.”

“Of the amounts collected, 85% are passed on to composers, performers, musicians and other holders,” Ecad reports on its official website. “Another 6% remains with collective management associations. The remaining 9% is passed on to Ecad.”
