Tracks from ‘Hail To The Thief’ will join ‘Hamlet’ in a fusion between music and theater
Thom Yorke is working on a fusion between theater and music: Hamletfrom William Shakespearewill gain a new format along the lines of the album Hail To The Thief (2003).
“The songs of Hail To The Thief were deconstructed and remodeled into a score to fit the piece, which will be performed by live musicians and actors,” wrote the Radioheadgroup headed by Yorkein an announcement made on social media.
The multi-instrumentalist characterized the project as an “interesting and intimidating challenge”, adding:
Adapt the original music from Hail To The Thief for live performances, with actors on stage, to tell this story that has always been told, using its familiarity and sounds, pulling them in and out of context, seeing what matches Hamlet’s underlying grief and paranoia, using the music as a ‘presence’ in the room, observing how it collides with the action and text.

Debut
The assembly, which will be directed by Christine Jones and Steven Hoggettpremieres on April 27th, at Aviva Studios, in Manchester, where it will remain until May 18th.
Then, it is the turn of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, in Stratford-upon-Avon, to host the play between the 4th and 28th of June 2025.
Ticket sales to attend the performances, restricted to the United Kingdom, start on Tuesday, October 1st.
