Lauryn Hill is reported by a member of the Fugees group

The singer is accused of financial fraud and breach of contract with the legendary trio

Singer Lauryn Hill was sued Tuesday (10/1) by one of the founders of the Fugees trio on charges of fraud and breach of contract, following the cancellation of the hip-hop group’s reunion tour. The legal action takes place in a civil court in Manhattan, USA.

In the trial, Pras Michel accused the singer of abusing the group’s finances and taking unilateral control of the contract, primarily by denying an alleged $5 million offer to perform at the Coachella festival. The American rapper also criticized her for her “chronic lateness” to shows.

Michael was also outraged by the cancellation of the tour that would have honored the trio’s glorious era in the 1990s. Her lawyer claims Lauryn “took advantage of Michel’s difficult legal situation and manipulated him into signing an unfair contract for the Fugees 2023 tour.”

Last year, Michel was convicted in a federal court in Washington after being implicated in an illegal campaign finance scandal in the United States by a Malaysian businessman. The defense uses the case as a relevant argument in the appeal.

Lauryn Hill believes the lawsuit is “baseless, full of false accusations and unfair attacks.” This month the singer will go on tour across Europe with the group “Ms. Lauryn Hill & the Fugees”, but Pras Michel’s defense has informed that he will not participate in the shows.
