With more than 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify and major collaborations with artists such as Anita and OzunaFloyyMenor is just at the beginning of its journey. He recently released the EP EL COMIENZO.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone BrazilFloyyMenor spoke about the impact of his music, his creative process and what’s next for his career. Check out the full interview below.
Rolling Stone Brasil: Who is FloyyMenor?
FloyySmallest: Well, it’s me, haha. An artist who wants to connect with people and make them feel something with my music. That’s what I want, to be able to reach people from all over the world, like I did with “GATA ONLY”. And, of course, take the name of my country (Chile) to the top.
RS: How was your growth process in music? How did it all start?
FloyySmallest: It was a long process. I started recording in the studio and released the songs I liked most, the ones I felt made sense on the EP. It all basically started with “GATA ONLY”.
RS: EL COMIENZO it’s an expression of everything you felt when no one believed in you. Can you tell us about the experiences that most influenced you and led you to continue in music?
FloyySmallest: Since I was little, I liked music, I started writing at home and releasing my songs on YouTube. This led me to connect with other artists in Chile and, little by little, I grew as an artist in my country.
RS: The concept of overcoming is central in EL COMIENZO. How do you see this theme evolving in your next projects? Do you think your music can help other young people who are going through similar difficulties?
FloyySmallest: Yes, I want my music to be something that can connect with people at any time. I have a lot of music on the way and I’m so excited to share what I’m working on for my debut album.
RS: “GATA ONLY” became a worldwide phenomenon in record time. When did you realize that music was exploding globally? Was there a specific episode that made you realize the impact you were having?
FloyySmallest: That’s when I started seeing videos of people from all over — from France, Italy, Spain. It was amazing to see myself in Times Square and then see people singing my song. It was something unique.
RS: Working with artists like Anitta and Ozuna must have been incredible. How were the recording dynamics? Can you share any interesting facts or unusual moments during the recording of the “GATA ONLY” remix? Any behind-the-scenes stories?
FloyySmallest: Unfortunately, I can’t share much behind the scenes, but it was an incredible experience working with these artists.
RS: How was the production of “GATA ONLY”?
FloyySmallest: I spent several nights in the studio, working late, searching for the best way to make the music I had in mind. From the moment I finished it, I knew it would be a hit. I just needed to wait for the right moment to launch it.
RS: Your style mixes reggaeton and trap, right? But it also brings unique influences from Chile. How are Chilean culture and your personal experiences reflected in your music? Do you see yourself exploring these roots further in future work?
FloyySmallest: I have a lot of influences besides trap and reggaeton that people haven’t heard yet, but there’s definitely more to FloyyMenor than those genres. In my music, I always try to talk about things in my life or things I see. I want people to connect with what I say.
RS: What can we expect in the coming years?
FloyySmallest: Lots of good music and a tour of several countries.
RS: Who do you want to reach in terms of the audience? Who is your target audience?
FloyySmallest: My goal is to continue growing with my music and with my fans. I want to bring the best music I can make and connect with them in a real and genuine way.
RS: Do you want to explore other musical styles or do you think that focusing on reggaeton and trap is the perfect mix for you as an artist?
FloyySmallest: I will continue exploring sounds and creating new things to leave my mark. There’s a lot more reggaeton and trap coming out, but also other sounds.
RS: You’ve already achieved a lot in a short time, but what most motivates you to keep going? Are there dreams or goals you haven’t yet achieved that are your next big ambition?
FloyySmallest: Yes, I have many dreams yet to be fulfilled. I want to keep growing and releasing music that becomes even bigger than “GATA ONLY”.
RS: What sets you apart from other artists in the urban Latin scene?
FloyySmallest: My sound is unique, as are my lyrics and melodies. I like to mix different sounds and create something of my own, like I did with “PELIGROSA” or “GATA ONLY”.
RS: How is your relationship with Brazil and our culture? Are you interested in further exploring this connection in future collaborations or even playing shows here?
FloyySmallest: Yes, definitely! In the last few months, I have gained a lot of new fans in Brazil, and that excites me a lot. I thank everyone for their support and I’m already looking forward to playing shows there!
RS: At just 19 years old, you have achieved a level of success that many artists only dream of reaching. How do you deal with this responsibility at such a young age? What are the biggest challenges?
FloyySmallest: I think finding time for myself is important. I like to go for walks and have moments of calm, away from everything. It helps me relax and think more clearly.
RS: You’ve worked with big names in music. Who are the artists you still dream of collaborating with?
FloyySmallest: I really want to collaborate with Travis Scott, Anuel or Myke Towers. I have several artists I want to make music with, and I’m already working on some things with them.
RS: Latin music, especially reggaeton, has grown exponentially in recent years and has conquered the world. How do you see this growth? Why do you think this is happening?
FloyySmallest: The music that is coming out of countries like Chile, Argentina and other Latin countries is very good, and the world is realizing that. People are starting to respect the music we make more, and that’s very important.
RS: If you could talk to your 10-year-old self, what would you say?
FloyySmallest: May you continue to work hard and focus on what really matters.
