The hotel manager called the police minutes before Liam Payne’s death

In the phone call the employee even expressed concern for the “guest’s life”

A manager at the Casa Sur Palermo hotel contacted Argentine authorities on Wednesday afternoon (10/16), minutes before Liam Payne’s death. The English singer died after a fall from the third floor of the hotel where he was staying in Buenos Aires. During the call the employee even reported “the effects of drugs and alcohol”.

The call occurred around 5.04pm, when the hotel employee expressed concern for the former One Direction member’s safety. “I’m calling from CasaSur Palermo, we have a guest under the influence of drugs and alcohol. When he regains consciousness, he is destroying the whole room. We need to send someone, please,” reads the Telegraph’s transcript.

“We need to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. He is in a room with a balcony, we are afraid that he will do something that puts his life at risk”, suggested the hotel manager in a call to local authorities.

Liam Payne was pronounced dead seven minutes after the employee called. The singer was already lifeless when rescuers arrived at the plant, at 5.11pm, and found his body with very serious injuries and no possibility of resuscitation.

“We would like to have a chance for him, but the injuries he had were very serious. I think the fall he suffered was almost 14 metres. The team did nothing, there was no possibility of resuscitation. Everything the body has very serious injuries,” said Alberto Crescenti, a professional from the Emergency Medical Assistance System, in an interview with the newspaper La Nación.

New information

On Thursday morning (17/10), Crescenti provided new updates on the tragedy: “Our role was to quickly go to the scene, provide medical assistance and try to resuscitate him. […] Based on what the team saw, there appeared to be a skull fracture and extremely serious injuries which led to his immediate death,” he told the Mirror.

Crescenti also avoided commenting on speculation about possible substance abuse and stressed the need for the international press and fans to be patient as autopsy reports have not yet been released.

In 2021, Liam Payne spoke openly about his problems with drugs and alcohol, which began shortly after the breakup of the group One Direction. The singer also said he felt alone for some time. In June 2023 he celebrated six months of sobriety after spending 100 days in a rehab clinic.
