Transplant star Hamza Haq talks about Bash and Bishop in the season 2 finale, as well as the state of season 3

Spoiler ahead of the finale of Transplant’s second season, entitled “Free for what”.

Season 2 of Transplant came to an end and “Free For What” managed to iron out some problems by offering some great cliffhangers. Some, like Bishop contemplating an uncertain future and Bash appearing at Mags’ gates, aren’t exactly ready to die, but Theo’s helicopter crash in what appears to be the Canadian wilderness doesn’t suit them. . . Thankfully, star Hamza Haq caught up with Gossipify to explain what happened with Bash and Bishop, as well as provide an update on the status of the third season.

Ultimately, both doctors tried to sacrifice their careers at the York Memorial to save each other, explaining what the star meant when he anticipated the “crossfire” between their characters in the finale. In the end, it was Bishop who saved Bash’s career, and not just by letting him keep his job. He used the leverage he had left to secure a three-year contract for Bash, which presumably would address at least some of his concerns about building a stable life for his sister.

Of course, while this was good news for Bash and Bishop didn’t seem too disappointed with the career move, will Bishop put an end to their momentum by leaving York? Their connection has been at the heart of the series since Bash made emergency holes in Bishop’s skull. Speaking with Hamza Haq, the actor wondered if “Free For What” was the end of their character’s dynamic:

We never say never. I think this is definitely a new journey for Bash and Dr. Bishop, as their current working relationship is coming to an end. You will have to watch and see if Bishop returns and in what capacity he contributes to the people of York Memorial Hospital or the Transplant show in general. I think on the show we had a steady hand from a seasoned veteran like John Hannah who took us by the hand in all of this and gave us a presence that made us feel safe and allowed to shine a little more and reflect. totally our relationship with John off screen [are] it reflects a lot in our relationship with Bishop in front of the camera. No matter where he follows, he will suit everyone. So you have to wait and see.

The Transplant Star wasn’t planning on spoiling any details about what would happen next, but he had a lot of praise for John Hannah as a co-star. Also, describing the characters’ situation as “a new journey” is appropriate for the way they have gone their separate ways as colleagues. You will no longer be the boss of Bash, but you don’t have to stop teaching. Bishop isn’t just going to retire, so there are sure to be ways to haunt York’s aisles again for some reason, right?

Only time will tell, and it seems very safe to say that the new status quo fits everyone, the show and fans watching from home. “Free From What” paid tribute to the power of their bond throughout the episode, including a time when Bash had to drill emergency holes to save a life.

Fortunately for everyone, this time Bash was able to use a safe medical device in a hospital rather than when he used a power tool to stab Bishop’s head in the middle of a burning restaurant during the series premiere ( that you can watch). revisit the stream with a Hulu subscription or a Peacock subscription). According to Hamza Haq, the hole scene was a “full cycle” moment, as he shared:

When I read this episode, I was like, ‘Okay. Bravo Jo. [laughs] It was like, ‘Yes. Freddo. Does this make sense. It is such a delightful TV to have it. We’re like, ‘Oh, you remember!’ You know, “the fans of the show will remember that!” But yes, it was wonderful to perform this procedure on him to save a life. It was amazing. One of those good times coming back to square one.

The star credited creator / executive producer Joseph Kay (who is also writing the Season 2 finale) for finding the moment that not only hinted at their origins as a duo, but also showed everything the way they’ve come since. in the restaurant where Bash worked as a cook. It was a good moment before the revelation that Bishop was indeed leaving and would no longer be the mentor in York.

Bash’s future could be very different in the future, and not just because he probably won’t have Bishop as often. Why he went to see Mags is ambiguous at this point, but the three-year deal at York gives him some freedom to catch his breath he didn’t have when he had to worry about his transcripts. Hamza Haq shared his thoughts on this newfound freedom, including an update on the status of the third season:

The dynamic between him and his peers and who he is as a doctor and the things he struggles with as a human person, it feels like … you know, we’re in production right now in season 3. We’ve shot eight or nine episodes so far. We’re in the middle of filming episodes 8 and 9. And so far in the season, the main focus has been on human struggle, as opposed to the kind of bureaucracy you encounter. Let’s find out another aspect. We can see their struggle from a more everyday perspective, as opposed to something systemic or bureaucratic, or even political. So I think there is relief.

it would be really Transplant What if Bash wasn’t struggling with something at some level? The good news is that season 3 is already in full production and your games in the new batch of episodes will be different now that you don’t have to worry about your transcripts anymore. There’s relief, according to the actor, but that doesn’t mean things will be easy. He continued:

But now it’s like when your life is going well, when you’re addicted to conflict, or when you’re so used to conflict, when things stabilize, you’re like, ‘Oh, I guess I just need to be careful with my life right now. And we see Bash grappling with this for someone who never had to. We’re like, ‘Everything else is fine, man. It’s just that now you need to focus on yourself and who you are as a person. It was like, ‘Wait, no. Doing politics and all those things is what I can do. These are problems I can work on. But if I have to look internally now, it’s a whole new ball game.

So how will Bash cope with his newfound freedom from some of his long-standing worries, as well as struggling to work on himself? Even though the two characters agreed to pretend they barely kissed in the elevator, Mags didn’t seem too displeased to show up at her door without warning. Of course, Rania will probably still be in his life while they are both in Canada, since he is determined to remain friends and is very important to her sister. Novak’s return could be interesting for Bash, even if Bishop’s previous job hires a loser.

Let’s hope Bash isn’t so overwhelmed that he doesn’t notice Theo’s absence, unless season 3 starts with a huge time jump! Season 2 picks up where the first one left off, so a time jump might not be in the cards. Still no news on when Transplant will return for a third season to fix any cliffhangers (and see if John Hannah is still around), but the new episodes will presumably air first in Canada.
