Will The Weeknd be reborn as Abel? Understand the theory that explains the clip with Anitta

The singer’s collaboration with Brazilian ‘São Paulo’ resulted in a clip showing Anitta with a bizarre pregnant belly; understand the possible explanation behind it

The launch of Saint Paulmusic by The weekend with Anita, on October 30th caused a stir and several theories among fans. The track is present on the album Hurry up tomorrowin which the singer describes the probable death of his alter ego The Weeknd to be reborn as Abel, his real name.

The clip shows Anitta pregnant with a “strange” baby, as her belly has a mouth. For fans, on social networks like X (formerly Twitter), the narrative brought by the album plays with the death of the artist and the birth of Abel, after his death in the video Dancing in the flames.

The theory is also supported by The Weeknd’s name change on his official social media. “Abel Tesfaye” is used on his X and “Abel” on his Instagram.

As for the music, the name San Paolo itself could be a reflection on “change and transformation”. Paul, one of Jesus’ apostles, went “from water to wine” when he stopped persecuting Jesus’ followers to convert to Christianity. In the music video some references to penances are used, such as fire, for example. The singer also posted a biblical reference on his Instagram, which pointed to Paul’s use of symbolism.

“Current humanity is fragile, deteriorated and weak, but, to share eternal life, bodies need to transform,” he wrote in the caption.

Fans also see the song as a new beginning for Anitta. In the song he returns to Rio funk, singing a version of Motela song by Tati Quebra Barraco released in 1997. The artist had already expressed the internationalization of the genre in which he began his career in his last album, Funky generationreturning to the style in a more contemporary way.

For her followers, Anitta’s “rebirth” is further demonstrated by the success of her latest releases and collaborations with various international names, such as former Maneskin bassist Victoria De Angelis.
