The album reflects the singer’s period of mental health treatment and tackles everything from anxiety to sexuality
New album
Singer Shawn Mendes released this Friday (11/15) his fifth studio album, “Shawn”, consisting of 12 new songs, including the singles “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough”. The album is now available on digital platforms.
The new production offers an intimate dialogue with listeners, as it is based on Mendes’ travels and experiences after canceling his “Wonder” tour (2022) to take care of his mental health. The artist describes the album as “personal medicine” and a way to learn to let go of potentially traumatic situations. “This album is about letting go and remembering who I am,” he said.
It was a little late
“Shawn” was initially set to hit platforms on October 18, but was pushed back so the Canadian singer could “bring some inspiration and ideas to life” from the project.
The songs explore themes such as loneliness, anxiety, relationships and even issues relating to sexuality. During a recent show, he confirmed that “The Mountain” addresses rumors about his sexual preferences. “Some days I change my mind, you can say what you need to say. You can say I’m too young, I’m too old. You can say I like girls or boys, whatever fits your mold,” Mendes sings in the recording.
