Guitarist was involved with the recording of the new album From Zero and is listed as a member, but has been replaced at shows by Alex Feder
The actual involvement of Brad Delson with the current phase of LinkinParkreactivated with Emily Armstrong on vocals and Colin Brittain on the drums, left fans curious. When they announced their return in early September, the band broadcast a live show on YouTube — and Delson it wasn’t there. However, he appeared in promotional photos and was mentioned as a member in the statement that confirmed the new album, From Zero.
The day after the livestream, Brad published a note to say that he would only participate in the group in studio activities. At shows, Alex Feder would be in his place. In addition to the names already mentioned, the singer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinodathe bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell and the DJ Joe Hahn complete the training.
In addition to the unclear statement from Delsonnothing was known about the subject. Until now. Shinoda gave an interview to Zach SangShow (via Blabbermouth) and, when discussing the arrival of Brittainended up sharing some additional information about the guitarist.
Initially, Mike commented that Colin would be just one of the composers and producers of From Zero. However, the fact that the original drummer Rob Bourdon Choosing not to get involved with the reactivation of the group caused a vacancy to arise.
Colin Brittain would be part of the process (of the new album by LinkinPark, From Zero) only as composer and co-producer. I love working with Colin. I met him in sessions and brought him in to help. But we saw that he would need someone to play the drums and, as I knew it was his main instrument, I offered it to him. This would take him away from a career in production.”
Then the situation of Delson was mentioned. According to Shinodathe guitarist deals with mental health issues that prevent him from touring.
In case someone doesn’t understand the dynamics, Brad is our guitarist — he’s in the band — but he realized that in terms of… it’s kind of a mental health issue. He doesn’t like touring and the live show lifestyle. So, he’s our guitarist, but he’s not playing live.”

The arrival of Alex Federin fact, it was a choice of Brad Delson. However, for a moment, the possibility was offered of Brittain become the guitarist on tours and not the actual drummer. Mike declares:
Brad he chose Alex to play their parts live and they get along really well. But at the time, we didn’t know Alexso we asked Colin:’Brad needs someone to play guitar and we need a drummer. You do both equally well. What would you like to do?’. It was like a kid in a candy store. I think he said, ‘I can’t believe what you’re asking me right now.’ He was so excited.”
Brad Delson’s statement
In the aforementioned September communiqué (via website Igor Miranda), Brad Delson said he was excited for the “new chapter” of LinkinPark and highlighted how everyone involved believed that something that was considered, at least, unlikely, was possible, also thanking the fans for their support.
Regarding his absence from the shows, however, he stated:
I have always felt deeply connected and proud of our live performances. Over the years, I’ve realized that I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes — in the studio, collaborating on our new music, and helping to build our show. I am so proud of everything we continue to create together.”
Afterwards, he presented Alex Federwho previously made a career accompanying artists such as Enrique Iglesias and Laura Pergolizzi.
While I won’t be performing on tour in this new chapter, I’m super excited to perform Alex Feder — my beautiful representative on the road. Alex is a world-class musician, a kind and thoughtful friend, and we are truly lucky that he will be contributing his unique talent to our LP universe. Fresh eyes, honest appreciation, and dedicated teamwork have brought us to this special moment. The privilege of sharing our creativity with you. Thank you for joining us on the journey.”
