One Direction members reunite after 9 years at Liam Payne’s funeral

The singer tragically died just over a month ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Emotional goodbye

The former members of One Direction attended this Wednesday (20/11) the funeral of their bandmate, Liam Payne, who tragically passed away just over a month ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The singer died after falling from the balcony of a hotel room.

Stars Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson had not been together for nine years, since Zayn left the band in 2015. They joined Payne’s family and close friends for a private religious procession in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, north-west of London, England. The coffin arrived at the site in a white carriage pulled by two white horses and decorated with floral tributes written “Son” and “Dad”.

In addition to them, the producer Simon Cowell and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy also attended the singer’s funeral. The international press also revealed that Payne’s farewell was also attended by his ex-partner, the singer Cheryl, with whom he had a seven-year-old son.

One Direction career

Liam Payne and his former colleagues became famous when they joined One Direction, formed in the musical reality show “X-Factor” (2010), under the visionary eyes of Simon Cowell. The boy band became a global phenomenon, with hits like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life.”

The tragic death of Liam Payne

The singer died at the age of 31 on October 16, after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to the autopsy, the British artist collapsed due to substance abuse (drugs, alcohol and medications) before dying in the autumn from polytrauma and internal and external haemorrhage. Argentine authorities continue to investigate the case and have already arrested three people linked to the death.

Among those arrested are two hotel employees, accused of “supplying drugs” to the singer, as reported by ABC News. The third inmate is a friend of Payne, who, according to police, was negligent in not alerting his family to the musician’s worsening health, despite being aware of the relapse he was facing. He was still listed as an emergency contact, but did not respond to attempts to contact the hotel and authorities following the death.
