The clip portrays the journey of a street musician who faces challenges to succeed in life
Special participation
Coldplay invited actor Ralph Macchio, who is part of the cast of “Cobra Kai” (Netflix), to participate in the music video for “The Karate Kid”, inspired by the film of the same name, in which the star also starred.
In the clip, Macchio doesn’t reprise his character as Daniel LaRusso, but plays a musician trying to make some money on the street. The artist’s path seems difficult until he gets a ticket to see the British group live. Some scenes were recorded at one of the band’s recent shows in Melbourne, Australia.
The images are also linked to the lyric video for “All My Love,” where singer Chris Martin appears dressed in the same way he meets Macchio in the new clip. The link represents the direction of Chris Candy and anticipates the release of a vinyl that brings together both songs on the tracklist.
More details
The lyrics attract attention thanks to the lines that mention the character from the 80s films of the same name. The story is about a teenager who moves to a new city and ends up learning karate to deal with everyday challenges, such as bullying.
“Oh Daniel, you know how to make a dream come true”, sings Chris Martins, who already on the “SiriusXM” program explained that the lyrics refer to an inner part that lives competing to overcome the challenges of life itself.
“The Karate Kid” is featured on the special edition of the album “Moon Music”, released this year by Coldplay. This version of the new album, “Full Moon”, is now available with 10 bonus tracks, including “Man in the Moon” and “Wave”.
