Guns N’ Roses vocalist participated in a re-recording alongside one of his idols: guitarist Michael Schenker
2024 was not the busiest for the Guns N’ Roses and its vocalist, Axl Rose. The band took the year off to rest after intense touring activity recently. Its members have dedicated themselves to side projects, with emphasis on the bassist Duff McKaganwho is on the road promoting the album Lighthouse (2023), and the guitarist Slashwho toured with both Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators as well as with a solo band, with which he released the blues album Orgy of the Damned (2024).
Rosein turn, made only two public appearances to participate in shows Billy Joel in the United States. As far as recording is concerned, just one new thing: a participation on the album My Years with UFOin which the guitarist Michael Schenker pays homage to his time as a member of UFObetween 1972 and 1978.
The collaboration of Axl happened in music “Love to Love”made available in September alongside the album, but with enhanced promotion now due to having received a lyric video. Slash also appears on the album, but on another track: “Mother Mary”sung by Erik Grönwall (ex-Skid Row). The guest list also includes Kai Hansen (Helloween), Roger Glover (Deep Purple), Joey Tempest and John Norum (both Europe), Joe Lynn Turner (formerlyRainbow), Adrian Vandenberg (ex-Whitesnake), between others.

Meanwhile, Guns N’ Roses continues without releasing new material. In 2021, the songs came out “Absurd” and “Hard Skool”. Last year, they were launched “Perhaps” and “The General”. These are the first records since the laps of Slash and Duff McKaganbut records indicate that the compositions date from the time of Chinese Democracy (2008), which remains the group’s last album.
Axl Rose and Michael Schenker
In an interview with Appetite for Distortion (via Igor Miranda website), Michael Schenker detailed behind the scenes work with Axl Rose. The guitarist says that, originally, the vocalist would sing three songs on the album.
“He ended up choosing ‘Too Hot to Handle’, ‘Only You Can Rock Me’ and ‘Love to Love’. But I think Guns were on tour at the time, so Axl wasn’t too happy with their performance on ‘Only You Can Rock Me’ and ‘Too Hot to Handle’. And there were too many songs, because they were in the middle of a tour, so he preferred to just focus on ‘Love to Love’. And I realized that he is a perfectionist. We waited until he was ready and finally said ‘ok, I approve, you can launch’.”
