A song she introduced as “Beija-Flor” and also referred to online as “Hummingbird” made its debut at Circus Voador
Before performing two shows in Sao Paulo, one of which was the opening act Lenny Kravitz at Allianz Parque —, Lianne La Havas performed in Rio de Janeiro. The show was held in Flying Circustraditional event venue in Lapa, last Thursday evening (21st).
In a repertoire that included the almost complete performance of the latest album – self-titled, from 2020 – and a cover of “Strange Fish” (Radiohead), the English singer played an unreleased song. The song, created during a visit to the country last year, was presented with the title “Hummingbird”in Portuguese.
According to the journalist Pedro Hollandain the text for the website IgorMiranda.com.br, La Havas he pointed out that the common name of the various bird species is his favorite word in the language. The second position goes to “zucchini”.
Although he said the word in Portuguese loud and clear, entitled to a complementary comment about the vegetable, the website Setlist.fm cites the song with the title “Hummingbird”precisely the English name of the hummingbird. It is possible that the term was spelled this way in the printed lineup.

Lianne La Havas and Brazil
It’s not surprising Lianne La Havas spoke about the Portuguese language during the show in Rio In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthe artist said that he was learning the language, in which he sang together with his idol Milton Nascimento on two occasions.
The first took place in June 2022, when she attended a Brazilian show at Union Chapel, London, England, performing with him “Meetings and Farewells”. The second happened in the studio: they recorded together “I miss Panair planes (talking at the bar)”in the album Milton + hopecollaboration of Bituca with the American double bass player Esperanza Spalding.
About the intimacy with the Portuguese language and the difficulty when registering “I miss Panair planes (talking at the bar)”Lianne says:
“I listen to a lot of Brazilian music and Portuguese lyrics. So, for me, the hard part was reading the lyric page and singing at the same time, because I know what it sounds like, but reading it is like really understanding the meaning. It took a a little, but by doing this I felt even more connected to the culture and the country. It was a little difficult, but I think spending time here makes things a little easier.”
The show Lenny Kravitz with opening Lianne La Havas, Frejat AND Liniker will take place this Saturday (23rd), at Allianz Parque, in Sao Paulo. The next day, at the Cine Joia, also in the capital São Paulo, the artist performs alone. Tickets are still on sale on the Eventim website.
