Only two episodes left before becomes Elizabeth ends up on Starz like Elizabeth Tudor’s Life Story immediately after the death of Henry VIII and the rise of his brother as the new king of England. King Edward and his advisers have not made life easy for any of his sisters, and even Lady Jane Gray has found herself in a mess of complications. While women struggle with this series, the stories are largely told from a female perspective, and actress Bella Ramsey weighed in on the significance at Gossipify.
Bella Ramsey plays Lady Jane Gray becomes Elizabeth, and his character was used as a pawn from the very beginning thanks to his father, Thomas Seymour, and Catherine Parr. In the last episode, only his father of these three is still alive, with Seymour executed. after his complicated relationship with Elizabeth and Catherine’s story ending with her death after giving birth. Between Jane, Catherine, Elizabeth Tudor, Mary Tudor, and even Kat Ashley to some extent, women are arguably the most nuanced characters despite not having the most power.
Speaking with Gossipify, Bella Ramsey shared her thoughts becomes Elizabeth emphasizing the female point of view:
With Anya Reiss, the writer, it was obvious that she wrote it from the point of view of the female characters, and much of the historical content is written, especially in the large ensembles, it is written from the male point of view. So it was really interesting to see it through a feminine or more feminine lens. I think it definitely brought an interesting dynamic, and it was important that we see it that way, we saw it through them.
Bella Ramsey can certainly vouch for having starred in a project that features a “great ensemble”, as her big break came with her role as Lyanna Mormont in game of Thronesbased on A song of ice and fire series of novels. The becomes Elizabeth the set is much smaller than it thrones had when Ramsey joined season six (streaming available with an HBO Max subscription ), and male characters outnumber female characters, but women are right in the middle. Plus, any Tudor history buff (or anyone familiar with Elizabeth I) knows which of these characters will gain real power.
Of course, it’s unclear whether or not Elizabeth I will become Queen Elizabeth at the end of the series, as there isn’t much time left and King Edward is still very much alive. However, the plot thickens and Bella Ramsey left some interesting comments on what awaits Lady Jane Gray before the credits:
Well, he might make another appearance. I guess he recovers towards the end. I think she is growing up a bit and she feels more capable of affirming herself and her opinions of her. So yes, we will definitely see more. Absolutely.
The show can be called becomes Elizabeth, but he also chronicled the struggles of Mary Tudor and Jane Gray, and it’s not over yet. Jane is not as famous as Elizabeth and Mary Tudor, but she and her father played key roles in the show. Bella Ramsey shared how she prepared to play this historical character who is just as important, but not as popular as some of the others included in Starz’s drama:
Interestingly, Lady Jane Gray is someone I knew well, as she lived literally 15 minutes away from me. The remains of her place of residence are still intact, so I really wanted to audition there. Quite funny! So I knew her pretty well. So I guess I learned more about history and all the connections between it and the rest of the royals and the people of the court, because I had never learned it before her. I knew a little about it in history class, but I hadn’t paid much attention to it. It was nice to be able to learn on my own.
Although becomes Elizabeth is a historical drama rather than a documentary (and surviving 16th-century sources will never tell the true story), Bella Ramsey immersed herself in the story of Lady Jane Gray, with the amusing coincidence of living close to where Jane had lived. . centuries ago. The final two episodes will show how much of Jane’s story will still be covered on the show, so be sure to tune in.
