The former One Direction member tried to get off the balcony before the tragic accident.
Singer Liam Payne, known worldwide as a former member of the band One Direction, has died at the age of 31 after a fatal fall while trying to escape from the Hotel CasaSur Palermo, in Buenos Aires.
The incident occurred on September 16 and, according to the police report obtained by TMZ, Payne was trying to get down from the third-floor balcony using a bag and improvised equipment.
According to the publication, hotel staff were aware that Liam had threatened to use the balcony to escape. Security camera footage showed the singer being taken to his room by staff shortly before the incident.
Despite concerns expressed by hotel staff members, he was left alone in the room, which ultimately contributed to the tragedy.
Payne encountered difficulty being confined in confined spaces, a condition that would worsen due to his experiences during his years of touring with One Direction. This behavior was highlighted in another incident in September, when he escaped from the balcony of a rental house in Florida using a garden hose.
Liam Payne: The investigation and the objects found
Argentine authorities revealed that Liam planned to climb down from the third-floor balcony to the second before hitting the ground. A brown leather bag containing pills, a bottle of whiskey and a note reading “for Liam” was found two days after the incident on the second-floor balcony.
The hypothesis investigated is that Liam would have dropped the bag while trying to get out. Other items found near the body included a hat and bag which were not with him when he was brought into the room. The police report indicates that, moments before the fall, the singer was conscious enough to strap his bag over his shoulder and step out onto the balcony.
A hotel employee even called the police before the incident, expressing concern about the singer’s behavior. During the call, he stated: “I don’t know if his life could be in danger. He’s in a room with a balcony and, well, we’re a little scared.”. Despite this, no immediate measures were taken to monitor it closely.
The death of Liam Payne has touched fans around the world and raised questions about the assistance offered by hotels and security teams to guests in vulnerable situations.
