One of the most popular names in rap in recent years, Carioca Coronel’s TZwho is only 23 years old, is the first Brazilian rapper to participate in the program VEVO DSCVR: Artists to Watchwhich aims to highlight musical promise around the world.

THE VEVO DSCVR seeks to showcase emerging artists so they can reach new audiences. THE Rolling Stone Brazil spoke with the artist, who, in addition to success, is still reaping the benefits of Straight from the jungle (2024), the third studio album of his career, released mid-year.

Rolling Stone: How did you feel when you were invited to VEVO DSCVR?

Coronel’s TZ: I was very excited, I also really appreciated the experience and the welcome from the professionals present that day. I can’t wait to see my fans’ reaction when the videos are released and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is a part of it; both my fans, for always supporting me and helping me grow, and the entire team Vevo invitation and reception.

RS: How important is this to your art?

TZ: It’s another way to further expand my career and anything that comes from it is always welcome. The project is very interesting and I’m sure you will like it very much.

RS: Do you aspire to an international career? Can this project be seen as a step in this direction?

TZ: I would, yes. In fact, I’m studying English, as I intend to release music in that language. I have already established some international connections, but I want to expand them to other places too and my biggest step in this direction will be to release music in English, little by little we will get there.

I see this project as a great opportunity to reach new audiences, as it has good visibility outside the country.

RS: You released Straight from the jungle a few months ago, how was the reception?

TZ: It was an album that in my opinion had an excellent reception from the public. There were several songs that were very well worked on and the fans consumed the entire album, from the first single to the release strategy of not revealing all the features, making everyone consume the entire album, not just the partnerships present.

Furthermore, it was an album that represented the “TZ of the Old Testament”, which is the TZ which were seen by both the younger audience who knew my work, and the older audience who are my most avid fans. And it was precisely because of the consumption of this album that the idea of releasing a was born Luxurybecause it was an album that the audience was actually consuming all the tracks of and wanted more from this project.

RS: How does this work reflect the current moment in your career?

TZ: For me, getting here was very difficult, very difficult. I had different struggles, different barriers. And today I did it, okay? But I’m still not satisfied with the level I’m at.

RS: What can we expect from Coronel’s TZ in 2025?

TZ: I can’t reveal it yet, but you can expect a lot of good things to come. I end 2024 with Luxury which has been highly requested and will be released in the next few weeks, to give you a taste of the next steps, as well as planning a tour that will retrace my career passing through different states of Brazil.
