In an interview with Contigo!, MC Kekel recalls his musical career that began after the death of his mother and reveals the backstory about the beginnings of his career
Breed originating from the Guaianas, eastern area of São Paulo, MC Kekel He got his start in funk at age 16 singing mandelão (a genre derived from electrofunky and bold funk) and broke out in 2016 with his first hit, Do you want to ride Meiota?. In an interview with With you!the artist reveals that at that time he was still working as a doorman to support himself.
“My life has been one of the greatest experiences. Through a friend I became a doorman, I lived in a nice place with my sister. I have a younger brother who is 11 years old. What brought me to music was the loss of my mother. My family already had a rap group and so on. It was all a joke, but after I lost my mother, I think I used that game as a refuge and eventually it became my job.”says Kekel.
The MC, who has already composed several songs, talks about where he draws so much inspiration from. “Most of my compositions have been inspired by my life and that of someone close to me. Writing what you feel is easy; or what you watched, what you want to be. Composition is feeling. I always put it on paper “highlights.
With the loss of her mother when she was still very young, Kekel remained with her brothers and uncle. During this time he was still living in Guaianases and explains what motivated him to stay in the region. “And I still live (…). It was my family, what little was left of it. What kept me there was my family on my mother’s side. Today I have my uncle and his wife (… . ) My brothers , I have a healthy relationship today, I want to have more fun with my family, my daughters, my brothers and some relatives”says the artist.
Then, the singer remembers when he made his debut in music, in 2016. “I was still a doorman. I had dyed my hair on one side blonde. Then, I was on the train, and everyone was looking at me, like ‘I think that’s Kekel’. A lot of people thought that when the music stopped, I had already earned money. Nothing! I played for two weeks of great music and the others thought I was making money, so I wasn’t making anything, so I only saw the key turn when the resident asked me to take a photo I was one reasons to ask for invoices in service”reports.
