In an interview with Contigo!, Bahian musician Thiago Aquino, known for his great arrocha hits, recalls his career with extraordinary stories

He guarantees that talent for music runs in the family.

“My family, almost all of them; some uncles, even cousins, already sing. It’s a family revisitation. Then, about 13 years ago, more or less, I discovered this passion for music, there in Paraíba. I met a band by forró, Desire for a Girl – I also want to leave a special kiss to the singer Lenno (…). remembers the artist.

Thiago started singing in bars. “I actually started working as a waiter, in bars, where there were some shows, voice and guitar. At first I worked as a waiter, and I always asked for the chance to perform. At first, I remember, I only knew sing a song: Cry, call me, beg for my kiss again (…) It was then that they gave me the opportunity and I continued in music”, accounts.

The musician says that in that period he heard that he had a gift for music: “Like I said, when I was working as a waiter, I had this desire to perform; that’s when I saw the opportunity with the singer who was performing there at the bar. He gave me this opportunity and said to me: ‘Thiago, why don’t you follow the singing career? See if it works’ From there I learned to play an instrument, which was the guitar.

When asked when he became a phenomenon, Thiago points out that it was four years ago. “It was in the middle of the pandemic, when we recorded a CD (…). It was a very difficult moment for me, because (…) In fact, we knew that our CD was playing on the streets, on platforms, on YouTube , but we didn’t know it had exploded in Brazil. We couldn’t perform in houses, because of the pandemic, but we knew we were doing well, playing on platforms, but we couldn’t do shows.”says the artist, who recently recorded the DVD Today is Favela Daywith a great show in Paraisópolis, a community located in the southern area of ​​the capital of São Paulo.
