Globo’s first original end-of-year cartoon
In an interview with TV Cultura, in 1992, the composer Marcos Valle recalled how the original version of the song Um Novo Tempo was made, in 1971: “The request arrived. Nelsinho Motta and Boni went home. They wanted a Globo’s New Year’s Eve song – it had to be from that year, it had to be an uplifting song, logically, something of hope for the following year.”
“Boni said: ‘I wanted a song that was both sophisticated and popular, because I will have the cast of Globo sing’. I went to the piano and things came easy. Then Sérgio and Nelsinho wrote the lyrics,” he continued .
