The annual retrospective highlights the growth of the genre in Brazil, with chart-topping hits and three of the most played artists

Henrique & Juliano were the most listened to artists in Brazil in 2024, confirming the strength of country music in the country. However, Spotify’s retrospective revealed a significant change: funk has increased its presence among Brazilians’ favorite songs.
If in 2023 the genre only had MC Ryan SP among the five most listened to, this year it consolidated three representatives and dominated the charts with hits of different styles.
Among the five most listened to artists in Brazil, three are representatives of funk: MC Ryan SP, in 2nd place, and MCs IG and PH, who occupy 4th and 5th place respectively. This expansion is even more evident in the most listened to songs. For the first time, a funk song tops the list of the most played songs in Brazil: “The Box Medley Funk 2”, performed by The Box, Mc Brinquedo, MC Cebezinho, MC Tuto, Mc Laranjinha and Dj Oreia.
The strength of the mountains
Another highlight was the popularity of the musical montages, reflected in “MTG QUEM Não QUER SOU EU”, a collaboration with DJ TOPO, Mc Leozin, Seu Jorge and MC G15, which reached the 4th position among the most played songs.
Rodrigo Azevedo, Spotify’s music editor, highlighted the importance of these innovations for the growth of funk: “As much as we have Ryan and IG occupying the second and fourth positions, MTG has responded with great moments of viralization and increased the consumption of funk on the platform, bringing other songs and other genres into funk, in new versions and guises.”
Established artists from other genres also joined this trend. Caetano Veloso launched his MTG with “Você é Linda”, in collaboration with DJ Davi Kneip, reinforcing the relevance of the style.
International highlights
On the global stage, Taylor Swift dominated Spotify as the world’s most streamed artist of 2024, followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake and Billie Eilish in the top 5. Taylor also led the albums category with “The Tortured Poets Department “. : The Anthology”, while Sabrina Carpenter and Benson Boone emerge in the most listened to tracklists, consolidating new names alongside the major stars of world music.
