Taylor Swift and the global phenomenon of The Eras Tour

The box office total of US$2.07 billion made The Eras Tour the most profitable tour in history

Last Sunday (8), Taylor Swift closed The Eras Tour with an emotional show in Vancouver, Canada, putting an end to a journey of 21 months and 149 performances. The tour, which revisited each phase of his career, became an unprecedented global phenomenon, grossing an impressive $2.07 billion at the box office and attracting more than 10 million people.

The project was billed as a celebration of the eras of Taylor’s career, spanning her albums from her country beginnings to her current alternative pop. The idea came up as part of his fight for the rights to his music, motivated by the dispute with his manager Braun scooter. The tour is a tribute to her trajectory, especially after she re-released her first albums under the “Taylor’s Version” label.

The show experience

The first show took place on March 18, 2023, at State Farm Stadium, in Arizona, and was accompanied by a countdown on the big screens. The stage, with a catwalk that extended in a diamond shape, was the setting for more than three hours of performance, divided into segments that paid homage to each era of his career.

In the repertoire, hits such as You Belong With Me, All Too Well (10 Minute Version), Blank Space and Anti-Hero were performed alongside surprise songs that varied with each show. The production logistics were impressive: quick costume changes, precise choreography and innovative visual elements made each performance a unique experience.

During the shows, Swift interacted with fans in a special way, popularizing traditions such as exchanging friendship bracelets — a reference to the track You’re on Your Own, Kid — and promoting moments of collective connection among the public, which filled stadiums around the world.

A landmark in Brazil

In Brazil, Taylor Swift performed six shows in November 2023: three at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo, and three at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro. The presentations were marked by kilometric queues and meetings of fans from different regions of the country. Tickets, which sold out in a matter of hours, mobilized caravans and transformed the places into real meeting points for swifties.

In a tribute organized by fans, Christ the Redeemer was illuminated in reference to the tour, symbolizing the artist’s importance to the Brazilian public. According to Francesca Alterio, CEO of T4F, the company responsible for shows in Brazil, demand exceeded all expectations: “We knew it would be huge, but the impact was even bigger than we imagined.”

Historical numbers

The box office total of US$2.07 billion made The Eras Tour the most profitable tour in history, doubling the previous record. The average ticket price was US$204, and more than 10 million people attended the performances. Additionally, Swift released two album re-recordings during the tour — Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — and a new project, The Tortured Poets Departmentwhich became the most listened to album of 2024 on digital platforms.

Other impressive numbers came from the publishing market: the official tour book sold more than 800,000 copies in just two days.
