Released for the first time in 1994, the album presents the artist’s greatest hits rethought in acoustic format
Launched in 1994, the iconic MTV Acoustic of Gilberto Gil has just won a special edition for the project Rocinante Three Seals. Entitled Gil Unpluggedthe album hits the market in double vinyl format, celebrating a milestone in Brazilian music and the renowned trajectory of one of the country’s greatest artists. Acoustic MTV: Gilberto Gil is the artist’s sixth live album. At the time, the album came out in LP, CD, K7 and VHS formats as part of the series MTV Acoustic. To Gilthe acoustic model was a reunion with his roots, as he defined at that time:
This acoustic was created with the sound intensity of stillness, which highlights the sweetest timbres of the Brazilian tradition of choro and song.”
This re-release is a celebration of the genius of Gilberto Gilrecognized as one of the greatest musicians in the history of Brazil and the world. The double vinyl arrives in a special edition with two colored 180g LPs, exclusive cover and graphic design signed by Rocinante Três Selos. The booklet contains text from Bento Araújowhich contextualizes the album’s historical importance and details the behind-the-scenes of this unique recording.
The repertoire features hits such as “The New”partnership with Paralamas of Successand classics like “Esoteric”, “Highlight”, “Parabolicamará”, “King Time” and “Every Bahian Girl”recreated with acoustic arrangements that highlight the essence of each composition. The band that accompanied Gil the recording featured names like Arthur Maia, Jorginho Gomes, Marcos Suzano and Lucas Santanawhich brought a new and vibrant look to the songs, in addition to including references to Brazilian regional music, such as baião in “Express 2222” and the coconut in “Parabolicamará”.
Recognized as one of the greatest musicians in the history of Brazil and the world, Gilberto Gil found in the project MTV Acoustic a unique opportunity to dialogue with the young audience of the 1990s, expanding its already established trajectory.
