“Carolina” is part of the soundtrack of A Far Far Away, one of Taylor Swift’s favorite stories
Taylor Swift is a big fan of A Place Far Away From Here and was so inspired by the story of the book that she offered to write a new song for the adaptation that hit theaters in the US last Friday, the 15th. The track “Carolina” was launched at the end of June and, for it to be as authentic as possible, Swift used only musical instruments from before the 1950s.
In an interview with Entertainment Weeklythe principal Olivia Newman detailed the singer’s creation process. “She talked about how she wanted it to sound like a haunting, gothic lullaby, and she just used instruments from before 1963 and recorded it all at once the same way they did back then,” she explained.
The filmmaker also praised the work of Swift: “She really thought a lot about the tonality of the song and the way she recorded it. It was very exciting for me.” In the same interview, Reese Witherspoonwho is the film’s producer, explained how “Carolina” joined the soundtrack.
“We got a call saying that taylor was so inspired by the book that I knew the movie was coming out, she was with her partners and they were writing folklore [disco de Swift lançado em 2020]and wrote a song specifically for this movie,” said Witherspoon. “It’s so dark. So beautiful. So accurate. We were just the benevolent recipients of this incredible artistic gift.”

A few months ago, Swift announced on Instagram that he was working on the song. “A Place Far Away From Here It’s a book I was absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a movie in the works starring the amazing Daisy Edgar-Jones and produced by brilliant Reese Witherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it on the musical side. I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend Aaron Dessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story.”
According to a press release (via AND!), A Place Far Away From Here “tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who came of age in the dangerous swamps of North Carolina. For years, ‘Swamp Girl’ rumors have haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya of your community.”
“Attracted by two young men from the city, Kya opens up to a new and surprising world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately singled out by the community as the prime suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict on what really happened becomes increasingly murky, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lie within the swamp.”
One Far Away From Here premieres on November 1 in Brazil.
