The unspecified health problem of the musician, who battled cancer in 2022, led to the cancellation of several Queens of the Stone Age performances

The second part of 2024 was not an easy year for us Josh Homme. THE Queens of the Stone Age had to cancel all shows he had scheduled between July 10 and November 17 due to an emergency surgery he had to undergo.

There are no details yet on the procedure, although it is known that Homme has been dealing with cancer in recent years. However, the musician is back: he attended an event celebrating the legacy of Marco Laneganlate singer of Screaming trees which also went through QotSA.

The show was held on December 5 at the Roundhouse in London, England. In addition to Josh, they participated Dave Gahan (Depeche mode), Chrissie Hynde (Suitors), Bobby Gillespie (Primordial Scream), Greg Dulli, Alison Mosshart, Saviors of souls AND Troy Van Leeuwen (also Queens of the Stone Age).

A video recorded for the occasion shows the QotSA leader performing the song “Carnival”released by Lanegan in 1994 on the album Whiskey for the Holy Spirit. Check it out below. He also sang “El Sol”, “Come to me” (along with Alison Mosshart) e “One Hundred Days” (along with Dave Gahan), as well as playing bass “Hit the Town”.

Once the health emergency has passed, Queens of the Stone Age will return to the stage in June 2025, for a series of shows in the United States. The following month he travels to Europe and the UK, where he mainly plays festivals.

Josh Homme’s cancer

In June last year, Josh Homme revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The Queens of the Stone Age leader became aware of the disease in 2022, but chose not to immediately make the matter public.

However, at the end of 2023, Homme said he would ITV News who was free from the disease. He did not specify the location of the tumor, only saying that he underwent surgery to remove it.

About the diagnosis, he told the magazine Revolvers (go Igor Miranda’s website):

“I never say it can’t get worse. I never say that and I don’t recommend it. But I say it can get better. Cancer is the icing on the cake of an interesting time, you know? I’m extremely grateful to be able to put it all behind me.” and consider it something bizarre, but it made me better. I’m fine with it. There are many things I want to do. And a lot of people want to do it.”

He also refers to the legal battle fought with his ex-wife, Brody Dalle (The Distillers), for child custody. Homme won the dispute and was granted full custody.
