The list considers data from the United States, the largest global music market; of the 200 best sellers, less than 30 come from rock
Currently, old rock records are sold more than new ones. That’s no surprise to anyone who follows lists of the year’s sales leaders, or even weekly charts, which occasionally feature albums from decades past.
However, fans less interested in this type of information may be surprised by the survey of the 200 best-selling albums of 2024, carried out by advertising billboard. A filtering carried out by the website Ultimate classic rock (go Igor Miranda’s website) shows that, among the two hundred cited, only 26 are rock — and none of these works are recent.
The best-selling rock album this year, in fact, was released in 1977. It is Voicesthe eleventh multi-platinum studio album by Fleetwood Mac. With lyrics describing the end of relationships within the band itself, the record has sold more than 40 million units across the planet over the decades.
The number of copies sold for 2024 was not reported. Still, Voices It is ranked 34th in the top 200 overall, covering all genres. An expressive position, even more so because it is such an ancient material.
The popularity of Voicesin fact, it was recently renewed with the success of the series Daisy Jones and the sixavailable on Amazon Prime Video.
