In an interview, Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan revealed how the band plans to produce and release new songs with Eloy Casagrande on drums
Percussionist and co-founder of the iconic metal band Slipknot, Shawn “Clown” Crahan reflected on the tour that celebrates the group’s 25th anniversary, in which it is designated as #6, and the next steps with the Brazilian drummer Eloy Casagrande.
It’s worth remembering how the band, which has Corey Taylor as a vocalist, he came to Brazil in 2024 in a double performance at Knotfest Brazil: on October 19th he celebrated 25 years of career, while on the 20th he held a special studio album show Slipknot (1999).
During an interview with NME, Clown spoke about the series of shows that celebrates the band’s entire history. He recalled when the idea for the project that would dominate the world came up. “I realized that I get into trouble if I work in the past, and I get into a lot of trouble if I get too hasty. That being said, taking this trip was a real honor,” he said.
I’ve had a lot of raw and difficult emotions with this, but what’s making it work is that fans are coming out in droves to get a glimpse of what it was like 25 years ago. Some fans even want to remember the feelings they had when they joined us back then!
At another point in the conversation, the artist was asked about the new materials the group works on, with the participation of Casagrande: “As you know, Eloy entered the thought process and the band known as Slipknot. There is a spirit going on now, and that spirit will be taken very seriously. When it comes to business like organizing a tour, taking time off and following some fundamental idea of what we’ve done before, the breaks have taken a hit.”
“Eloy is in the band and there’s something going on between the nine of us right now that’s really fun. A lot is floating around and we probably have several albums in us now,” he continued. “As for how things feel, I’m being completely honest with you right now, it’s like a cloud has parted. Whatever this cloud is… everyone participates in the cloud. It’s great.”
Finally, Clown explained how the band’s next steps will feature more touring and “a much-needed spiritual, physical and mental break.” Then, they plan to get together to work on new music in the studio.
I think the future is very bright. In the past, I was looking forward to the future, but now I am content. I’m fine with just letting it all unfold and then winding it up and seeing what happens. We have some surprises for people that I can’t talk about right now, too. There are always some things you won’t know, and then suddenly you wake up and are on your way to work: BANG! Here comes the Slipknot.
