When asked, Gilmour cited two classics that marked the history of music. “I think a lot of people would sayWaterloo Sunset”commented on the 1967 success of The Kinks. “And it’s definitely among my favorites.”
Furthermore, Gilmour highlighted the power of Heartbreak Hotelfrom Elvis Presleyand explained why he considers this song so special. “It’s such a simple recording, with very few instruments, but every detail is absolutely magical. You can’t convey an atmosphere more perfectly than that.”
The musician, who had already praised these songs in the past, once again reaffirmed his admiration. In 2013, during an interview with BBChe described Heartbreak Hotel as “a perfect recording” and praised its simplicity. In a question and answer session in 2007, he said that Waterloo Sunset and “the perfect pop song”and highlighted that he would have loved to have written the song.

We want to start this as soon as possible.”
When talking about his creative process, the guitarist commented that the lyrics generally appear in more advanced stages of the composition, with the melodies emerging spontaneously. “Sometimes I just hum things like ‘la la la’ until I come up with something interesting.”he explained with humor.
When asked how he knows a song is finished, Gilmour was honest: “You feel like you look brilliant when you leave the control room. But there’s always that thought, a year later, that I could have done something different.”
