The encouraging secret revealed by David Gilmour in a Christmas message

Pink Floyd’s eternal guitarist was very active in 2024: he released a new album and performed a series of shows to promote it

“So it’s Christmas, and what did you do?”. If David Gilmour listen to classic music SimoneI would respond: “a lot”.

2024 was marked as the year in which the musician, famous for his decades with Pink Floydresumed his solo career after almost a decade away. First, he launched Luck and Strangeher first album since Rattle That Lock (2015). Afterwards, he went on a tour — something that hadn’t been done in eight years.

As Gilmour is 78 years old, one imagines that he may not have made many commitments. However, a Christmas message shared by the guitarist indicates that, in fact, 2025 should also be a busy year.

First, in the footage, David welcomes his two dogs, plays a dulcimer and reveals some interesting facts about the instrument. As transcribed by Classic Rockhe said:

“It’s a very old instrument that came from Europe at some point. It was widely adopted in the United States – the Appalachian dulcimer. This was made in Italy. My friend’s girlfriend’s father, an Italian, made this for me. I’ve had it for over 40 years, I think, but I don’t really know how to play it. You Rolling Stones used it in a song called ‘My Sweet Lady’ [nota: provavelmente ‘Lady Jane’].”

Learning aside, Gilmour reinforced his message with gratitude for what happened and, to excite fans, he delivered a little secret: an indication of more to come. The artist declares:

“We had a very long and busy year: we made and released an album, went on tour, met new people, new collaborators. One way or another, we ended up with a team of people who are an absolute joy to play with and be around. And I would like to do it again…starting now!”

David Gilmour’s supposed next album

It’s not possible to say exactly what’s coming. However, previous interviews gave an indication: David Gilmour plans to record another album. In a statement to billboard (via Igor Miranda website), he commented:

“My intention is to bring together some of these people [envolvidas com Luck and Strange] and start working on something else in the new year. Just have a few things to start with and wait for everything to start flowing. That’s what I hope will happen.”

And where will Pink Floyd’s eternal guitarist get new songs? In an interview with Mojohe has already revealed:

“I already have a treasure trove of things. Excerpts and parts of songs, some of which I really like. There’s a consistency to what we’ve just done with this album now. We take things further.”
