After conquering the music world once again with the album Hit me Hard and Softthe singer Billie Eilish gave a brief reflection on her life and career during the year 2024.
The artist’s most recent work, Hit me Hard and Soft ended up as the second most listened to album on Spotify and was elected by Rolling Stone Brazil as the second best international album of 2024. Furthermore, the song “Birds of a Feather” occupied third position on the American charts and received nominations for three categories in the Grammy: Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In an interview with Vanity Fair — the eighth since its first appearance in the magazine, in 2017 — Eilish shared his reflections on professional and personal growth.
I spent the entire year making friends and getting closer to people I hadn’t had much contact with previously. I also renewed friendships from the past. It was a year full of friendship. And yes, I had a lot of good sexual experiences. So, thank you to myself”, said the artist jokingly.
Sexuality on the agenda
The sex life of Billie Eilish was also addressed on other occasions. In a conversation with Rolling Stone published in April, she mentioned the sexual nature of her song “Lunch” and discussed his statements to the Variety in 2023, when she mentioned that she was attracted to women.
This song was a fundamental part of my self-discovery process,” he says. Billie. “I wrote some parts before I even had experiences with girls and finished them later.”
However, the artist was uncomfortable with having to address the issue publicly:
I never, ever planned to talk about my sexuality. It’s very frustrating for me that this topic comes up.”
Shortly after the 2023 interview with VarietyBillie attended a magazine event and was asked by a reporter if she had revealed the story intentionally. “No, I didn’t do that. But I thought, wasn’t it obvious?”
After the incident, the artist commented on the incident in a post on Instagram:
Thank you for my award and for exposing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about something that really matters. I like boys and girls; please leave me alone about this. Literally, who cares?”
In conversation with Rolling Stoneshe admitted that she may have exaggerated her reaction on social media.
The whole world decided who I am without me being able to say anything or control it. No one should be pressured to define themselves in a specific way. It takes time to discover yourself, and it’s unfair how the internet pressures you to talk about who you are.”
In the interview with Vanity Fair, Billie He even watches an old recording in which he talks about not allowing others to take away his “shine”. Reflecting on that moment, she states:
I trust myself a lot now. Looking at that girl from 2022, I realize I didn’t trust her. Today I trust myself and I won’t let that happen again.”
